Student Wellness Navigators Application

The Office of the Associate Vice President Student Health and Wellness and the MacOdrum Library have partnered to offer a Wellness Desk staffed by Student Wellness Navigators within MacOdrum Library. The Student Wellness Navigators will support and connect students with resources and services on and off-campus. Reporting directly to the Wellness Coordinator, the Student Wellness Navigators will engage with students who present to the Wellness Desk with mental health and wellness related issues and navigate them to on- and off-campus supports, resources, and support in transferring them to the appropriate resources. The incumbents will also assist with event planning and delivery, workshop development and presentation, as well as communication about the Wellness Desk space.

  • Requirements

    Must be enrolled as a 3rd year standing or higher full-time or part-time undergraduate degree student at Carleton University for the 2024/2025 academic year. Must be available to work in-person at the MacOdrum Library. Students must be able to work on evenings throughout the week and on weekends.
  • You are working as a Student Wellness Navigator. A student presents themselves to the Wellness Desk in the later evening. They have indicated that they are not doing mentally well and needs to speak to a counsellor. They are frustrated because Counselling Services on campus are closed for the day, and they are not sure what to do now. They reject every resource you try to suggest to potentially assist them with their concerns. After some time has passed, the conversation is now going in circles. Please describe how you would move forward with supporting the student.
  • The Wellness Desk follows the 8 Dimensions of Wellness model. The dimensions include: Occupational, Financial, Social, Intellectual, Emotional, Spiritual, Environmental, and Physical. Choose 2 dimensions and in your own words: A) Explain their importance in maintaining one’s wellness B) How they may overlap C) Examples of behaviours or activities associated that can support the two dimensions
