Missed Coursework and Examinations
Due to medical and other extenuating circumstances, students may occasionally be unable to fulfil the academic requirements of their course(s) in a timely manner. Please review the Academic Consideration Policy to determine if a doctor’s note is required for missed coursework or examinations.
About Doctor’s Notes
Doctor’s notes are not covered by OHIP or by UHIP, nor are they covered by the CUSA Health & Dental Plan or the GSA’s health plan. Most private insurance providers do not cover this expense. Doctor’s notes are a chargeable service.
If an illness occurs when the clinic is closed and you get a note from a physician off-campus, ensure it is written on their professional letterhead. Only the attending physician who personally diagnosed the student at the time of their illness can write the note.
You cannot request a doctor’s note from Health Services for a past illness. You must see a doctor when you are presently ill for them to make an appropriate diagnosis. It is up to the doctor’s discretion to provide you with a note.
